Aligning / Placing your model using QR codes

GAMMA AR allows users to align on corners and gridlines without any setup, place QR code waypoints to facilitate positioning, or use GNSS to align the model on-site. This page is about aligning using QR codes.

Using QR codes in GAMMA AR is a 3 step approach:

  1. Printing QR codes generated in the GAMMA BIM PORTAL
  2. Registering QR codes on site
  3. Aligning using QR codes

Printing QR codes generated in the GAMMA BIM PORTAL

Printing QR Codes

  1. Go to https://portal.gamma-ar.com/ and open the section “QR Codes”
  2. Click on Generate QR codes
  3. Type a number of QR codes you want to print and press submit
  4. QR codes will be downloaded to your device
  5. Ensure to Print the QR code with 100% scale

Registering QR codes on site

First align the model on site using corners or gridlines. To do that, follow the steps detailed in here: https://help.gamma-ar.com/placing-your-model-on-site

After placing the model successfully, you can now register a QR code that you have placed on a flat surface in your building. To ensure correct positioning, ensure the QR codes are pressed flat against this surface and taped on the top and the bottom without covering any of the graphics on the page.

1. In the hamburger menu on the top right corner click on select “Register QR code” .

3. Point with the camera of your device to the QR code. A Cloud encircled with a red outline will appear in front of you that indicates that this QR code was not yet registered. Click on the cloud to register the position of the QR code. Ensure that you are standing with some distance to the QR code. we recommend 3-5 feet or 1- 1.5m of distance.

4. The cloud icon outline will turn green, indicating the QR code is registered and can be used. In the same way, you can also update the position (2) of an existing QR code, which will be indicated from the beginning with a green outline. If you don’t plan on registering further QR codes, it is recommended to turn off the QR code mode after registration (3) so as not to overwrite subsequent QR codes by accident.

5. Sync your project when connected to the internet to make models available to other users.

Positioning the model the construction site using QR codes

To use the QR codes for alignment, after selecting a model for positioning, choose align with QR Code.

2. Direct your device towards the QR code. Once the QR code is recognized (white bracket becomes green) the modelwill start loading.

3. Move the device around so that it can capture the environment correctly (large circular and shifting movement as if you were stirring a huge pot with your device while tilting it towards the ground and back up again)

4. Click on the lock to confirm the alignment of the loaded model. You can confirm your placement or wait until it is automatically confirmed. Now you placed the model on site and you can move around freely.
